The Schmusibu® cuddle pillow
sees the light of day.
What was meant as a private idea is now for all parents out there: a hand-sewn cuddle pillow, born from sleepless nights with twins.
Schmusibu — more than just a cuddle pillow.
How do you know you really want something? Probably only once you cannot get it any more — sleep, for instance! As the proud parents of twins and a brother three years older, Daniela and I could sing you a song about that. You become modest: sleep was our number one goal.
So how do you calm the little crowd down? No dummy! The cuddle nappies from my own childhood sadly did not bring the hoped-for success either. Then, one night, wandering from one children’s room to the next, we noticed the small old cuddle pillow from those childhood days that had quietly ended up as decoration.
The first “test” was with Alexander, one of the twins, who was still standing in his cot in tears. I laid the pillow against his cheek — and all at once it went completely quiet. Alex first had to inspect this new object closely before he put it against his cheek and, after a few minutes, fell asleep calm and content. His brother Nikolas, by the way, still puts it on his head today!
It works — and all at once I thought: that’s it! A cuddle pillow, a Schmusibu.
The next morning we refined the idea straight away. Quality comes first: a cuddle pillow, not too big and flat, so it cannot stay lying on the child’s face. Washable at at least 60 degrees — you never know where it will end up or what it has to go through over time. Handy and compact, so that at a pinch it also fits into a small handbag.
And of course handmade and of high quality, sewn specially. What came out of it is our classic — Schmusibu in three colours: pink, light blue and white (in case you do not know yet, when giving it as a present, whether it will be a boy or a girl).
What became of this business.
