Some light in the dark!
The Google SEO update of September 2025.

In September 2025 Google once again pulled the digital carpet from under our feet. A core update with the internal code name “Perspective” gave the SEO world a proper shake: rankings that seemed carved in stone for years vanished overnight — while other sites suddenly reappeared.

So it is time to shed some light and to understand why impressions and clicks suddenly drop — and how to come out of the update stronger.

Context

This post contains my personal experience and reflects my personal opinion.

A change of perspective instead of a keyword battle

With this update Google made it clear: it is no longer about playing the keyword game perfectly, but about whether content meets real user needs. Newly introduced were so-called “intent satisfaction metrics” — figures that measure whether a user really gets what they were looking for after the click, or whether they go straight back to searching.

Many sites that were technically clean but thin on substance dropped for exactly that reason. Others that deliver real depth, answers and value gained massively.

The three new ranking pillars

Google now looks more closely — and judges content by three new core aspects:

  • Expertise depth: do you show real expertise or just SEO phrases?
  • User journey completion: does your content not only answer a question but really satisfy the thirst for knowledge?
  • Fresh perspective value: do you offer original views and unique information, or do you just copy what already exists?

Whoever shines in all three areas rises. Whoever is merely “nicely optimised” falls.

Mobile user experience becomes a ranking booster

The update lifted mobile search to a new level:

  • Google now judges desktop and mobile rankings separately.
  • Interaction speed counts for more than loading time alone.
  • Anyone who enables cross-device journeys (wish lists, synchronised baskets, for instance) is rewarded.

Whoever is sloppy on mobile loses. Whoever delights on mobile wins.

Local SEO 2.0: the new kind of closeness counts

Google has thoroughly reworked local search. The new “proximity plus” model judges not only where someone is, but also context and urgency. An emergency service is treated differently from a planned renovation.

“Community authority” also counts now:

  • Local events
  • Involvement in the region
  • Active, regularly maintained Google Business profiles

Local businesses with a real presence and up-to-date information get clear ranking advantages.

Content quality rethought

Keyword density? Yesterday’s snow. Google now uses AI to recognise whether texts were written for people or for machines:

  • Naturalness & expertise beat empty phrases.
  • Short but complete content can overtake long texts.
  • Content has to be actionable & explanatory, not just informative.

Authenticity and real value are the new SEO currency.

Technical SEO is no longer an end in itself

Technology remains important — but it has to support the structure of the content:

  • Topic clusters & clean internal linking help Google understand connections.
  • Schema markup becomes decisive when it is used in detail and appropriately.
  • User experience signals such as stability, readiness to interact and navigation influence rankings directly.

Technical SEO = the foundation. Content = the house.

What you should do now

If your impressions and clicks have collapsed, no amount of “keyword tuning” will help. You need a strategic reset:

  • Do an honest content audit: does your content deliver real value?
  • Build content clusters around core topics instead of single articles.
  • Improve mobile UX and local relevance.
  • Optimise your schema markup deliberately.
  • Think from the user’s point of view — not from the ranking’s.

Improvements usually show after two to three months. Whoever acts wisely now can come out of the update stronger.

Conclusion

The September 2025 update marks the end of SEO trickery. Google rewards real expertise, a focus on users and technical cleanliness — not keyword spam or surface optimisation.

Now is the perfect time to align your strategy with the new Google era.
